NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs
Game 2: Washington Capitals at New York Rangers, NBC 12:30 p.m.
After a stunning Game 1 loss on a literally final second goal, the Rangers will try to even the series against a motivated Alex Ovechkin and the Caps.


Baseball
New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox, MLB Network 1:30 p.m.
Los Angeles Angels at San Francisco Giants, FOX Sports 1 4 p.m.
A rare non-network game between the AL East rivals will be simulcasted on MLB Network, as Alex Rodriguez tries to pass Willie Mays on the all-time Home Run list.   MLB on FOX's lead team of Joe Buck, Harold Reynold and Tom Verducci will work their second game of the second together in the left coast as Mike Trout and the Angels visit the defending World Champions.   

Horse Racing
141st Kentucky Derby, NBC 4 p.m.
5-2 favorite American Pharoh, trained by legendary Bob Baffert will try to take the first leg of the triple crown in a 19 horse field.  

NBA Playoffs
Game 7: San Antonio Spurs at Los Angeles Clippers, TNT 8 p.m.
The most intriguing match up of the first round concludes with the decisive seventh game.  Will the defending champions continue on for a chance to repeat?  Or will Steve Balmer finally have a chance to succeed with a billion dollar company.

Boxing
Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao, PPV 10 p.m.
The most anticipated championship bout in the last 15 years will air on pay per view for nearly $100.  Though five years too late, Mayweather-Pacquiao will conclude one of the greatest days in American sports history.

News & Notes: Pacquio-Mayweather

Arguably, five years too late, but its finally here.  As reported several days ago, undefeated WBA, WBC and Ring welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather (47 wins), will fight Filipino legend Manny Pacquio (WBO welterweight champion, 57-5-2).  'The Fight of the Century' will take place on Saturday night, May 2nd from MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.  Per Sports Illustrated report, the combatants broadcast promoters (HBO and Showtime), will co-promote the event on Pay Per View, with Showtime/Viacom producing the event.  The blow by blow will be called by HBO's Jim Lampley, with Showtime's Al Bernstein as the lead analyst, along with Roy Jones. Max Kellerman and Jim Gray will be the reporters for each fighter, presumably with HBO's Kellerman with Pacquio and Gray with Pretty Boy Floyd.  Showtime's  James Brown and Paulie Malignaggi will host the card.

The May 2nd event could potentially culminate as one of the greatest sports days in recent memory.   On the schedule for the day include:

• The Kentucky Derby from Churchill Downs in Lexington on NBC
• The NHL Playoffs, with an early game likely scheduled on NBC, preceding the race
• The NBA Playoffs, airing on ESPN, TNT or both (schedule TBD)
• The final day of the 2015 NFL Draft on NFL Network and ESPN
• A full slate of MLB featuring likely national broadcast between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox

News & Notes: New Faces in Different Places

On the heels of CBS's announcement that Trent Green will join CBS, here are some other network moves announced in the week:

Josh Elliot has left ABC's Good Morning America to join NBC Sports.  Elliot, formerly of ESPN's SportsCenter and then GMA, will be assigned to cover the Triple Crown this Spring/Summer, NFL in the fall and future coverage of the Olympics on NBC.  Elliot, who left Disney due to a breakdown in contract negotiations, cannot join NBC's Today show until his no compete clause expires.

In the wake of Elliot's departure, ABC quickly came to agreement with NFL on FOX's Michael Strahan to join Good Morning America.  Strahan, also of Live! with Kelly & Michael (with Kelly Rippa), will join the morning show's third hour of programming, twice a week.  Strahan is the second FOX Sports talent to sign on with an ABC property, as Erin Andrews was tabbed to co-host ABC's Dancing with the Stars in January.

FOX Sports also made their own acquisition, signing renowned College Football reporter Bruce Feldman.  Feldman, infamously parted ways with ESPN, after the controversy surrounding his work on ESPN nemesis Mike Leach's autobiography in 2011.  He signed on with CBSSports.com on a three year deal that expired this year.  Feldman's signing should give  FOX's flat college football studio a slight boost in credibility going into its third year against ESPN's signature College Gameday program.  Feldman will be a contributor on television and FOX Sports.com.

 NBC's Sunday Night Football analyst Cris Collinsworth will be leaving Showtime's Inside the NFL. The Emmy away winning analyst, who has appeared on the program since 1989 on HBO and Showtime, has decided to quit the show to lighten his travel load and to work exclusively with NBC Sports.  Showtime producers have yet to announce a replacement.

 Former FOX Sports Prime Ticket and MLB on FOX analyst Steve Lyons has joined NESN.  The former analysts was let go by the Dodgers after last season with the team moving their broadcast to Time Warner's SportsNet LA.  Lyons will work primarily on Red Sox pregame studio show and other NESN programming.

NFL TV Primer: Part 3 NFL on CBS

The NFL on CBS returns with its 54th (non-consecutive) year with coverage of the AFC. While there will be no changes to it’s over the air coverage, CBS will have supplemental football coverage using its cable brethren CBS Sports Network very much like FOX is using FOX Sports One.

• Jim Nantz and Phil Simms will return as the network’s #1 broadcast team for their 10th season together and will lead all game coverage of AFC games starting Sunday, September 8th. CBS will have most of the AFC Playoffs including the Sunday Wild Card game, both Divisional games and concluding with the AFC Championship game. Veterans Greg Gumbel and Dan Dierdorf are expected to receive the B assignment of the Divisional playoffs for the 8th time
• There are no changes in the networks announcers’ pairs from last season. CBS will once again be without field reporters outside of the postseason, but there are hints that SEC on CBS reporter Tracy Wolfson may join NFL coverage during non-college football weeks
• The network’s signature program The NFL Today returns with James Brown hosting from New York joined by analysts Boomer Esiason, Dan Marino, Shannon Sharpe and Bill Cowher. Jason La Canfora and Lesley Visser will also return as contributors
• CBS Sports Network will premiere a new pregame show, the unfortunately titled 'That Other Pregame Show' on opening Sunday with a four hour pregame show beginning at 9 AM ET. Adam Schein will host and will join by former linebacker Bart Scott, former Oakland CEO Amy Trask and other CBSSN talent. Analysts from the NFL on CBS will also contribute before the noon broadcast
• Other programming from the Tiffany Network on pay cable includes Showtime’s Emmy Award wining Inside the NFL hosted by Brown along with Simms and NBC’s Cris Collinsworth and CBSSN’s NFL Monday QB will also return with Schein hosting
