Earlier
today, ESPN
announced its Opening Day schedule to open its 25th season of covering Major
League Baseball. The 2014 season will premiere on Sunday, March 30th
with Sunday Night Baseball featuring the defending NL West Champions the
Los Angeles Dodgers taking on the San Diego Padres. Dan Shulman, John
Kruk and field reporter Buster Olney are expected to have the call with their
new partner Curt
Schilling, who will succeed Orel Hershiser in the SNB booth. Coverage
will being at 6:30 p.m. with the season premiere of Baseball Tonight
hosted by Karl Ravech along with Barry Larkin, Kruk and Schilling.
The following
day, ESPN and ESPN will air 5 opening day games including two afternoon games
on ESPN featuring four NL Central rivals. ESPN2 will have a triple header
starting at 3PM with the World Champion Boston Red Sox taking on division
rivals the Baltimore Orioles. The night will conclude with the season debut of
Seattle Mariners Robinson Cano in Anaheim to take on the Los Angles Angels.
Game
assignments and the rest of the 2014 schedule have yet to be announced.
