The 2013-2014 NBA season gets under with a weeks slate of games featuring plenty of bad blood. Turner will use TNT and NBA TV to run three straight doubleheaders. LeBron James and the defending champs the Miami Heat will make their season premiere on opening night Tuesday hosting the Chicago Bulls and the return of Derrick Rose. That will be followed by the Battle of Los Angeles as Kobe Bryant and the Lakers take on the Clippers and the debut of their new coach Doc Rivers. Then Thursday night, the New York Knicks are in Chicago, followed by Golden State taking on the Clippers. Coverage will start with the return of Emmy Award winning Inside the NBA hosted by Ernie Johnson along with Charles Barkely, Kenny Smith and Shaquille O'Niel. NBA TV will open the season with four simulcasts during the week, with a Wednesday night premiere doubleheader.
ESPN opens their season Friday with the Heat in Brooklyn to take on the new look Nets with a ton new faces including new coach Jason Kidd and the additions of Miami nemesis's Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce. That will be followed by the Lakers hosting the Western Champs, the San Antonio Spurs. Coverage begins with the premiere of the new NBA Countdown, with new additions host Sage Steele and former Philadelphia coach Doug Williams replacing Magic Johnson and Jason Wilbon. They will be joining the returning Jalen Rose and Bill Simmons every Friday and Sunday on ESPN and ABC. Starting Wednesday November 13th, Doris Burke, Avery Johnson and Rose will fill in the mid week studio show.
