NFL TV Primer 2016


FOX Sports will be the broadcast home of Super Bowl LI from Houston on February 2017.  Joe Buck, Troy Aikman and sideline reporter Erin Andrews will return as the lead broadcast team  and will be assigned SBLI. In addition, FOX will air four NFC playoff games, including the NFC Championship. FOX will have regular season coverage of the NFC with some games swapped from CBS to enhance television distribution coverage for select weeks.

Talent:  FOX NFL pregame returns two national shows beginning with FOX NFL Kickoff followed by FOX NFL Sunday.  The main show returns co-hosts Terry Bradshaw and Curt Menefee, along with analysts Howie Long, Michael Strahan and Jimmy Johnson. NFL insider Jay Glazer, Rob Riggle and Mike Pereira will contribute to the pregame, with Pereira assisting on game broadcasts for rules analysis.

New additions include Washington cornerback Josh Norman contributing to the pregame show during select Washington games airing on FOX.  Chris Spielman joins as a game analyst with Dick Stockton.  Newly retired Charles Tillman joins FOX NFL Kickoff morning show.  Peter Schrager is promoted as a weekly Sideline Reporter and newly hired CFB reporter Shannon Spake will work select games.

CBS Sports will broadcast regular season coverage of AFC games, as well as produce and broadcast the first half of the league’s scheduled Thursday Night Football package.  Thier schedule includes five national simulcasts with NFL Network, including games streamed online on Twitter.  CBS will also broadcast select NFC contests, and will air some NFC games from FOX to enhance television distribution coverage for select weeks.  CBS will also broadcast three postseason games including the AFC Championship Game.

Talent: Jim Nantz, Phil Simms and sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson will return as the lead broadcast team for Thursday night and most Sunday national games. Ian Eagle, Dan Fouts and reporter Evan Washburn return as the B team with a select assignment of national games.  The NFL Today returns with host James Brown along with Boomer Esiason, Bill Cowher, Tony Gonzalez and Bart Scott. Jason La Canfora returns as the show’s NFL Insider.

The NFL on CBS will implement their new logo and graphics package they introduce on their Super Bowl 50 broadcast earlier this year.

NBC will air 24 national primetime games, including 17 Sunday Night Football, five national simulcasts of Thursday Night Football and two special Thursday games (Kickoff game and Thanksgiving night).   NBC will produce and broadcast Thursday Night Football in the second half of the season, with five national simulcasts on NFL Network, including games streamed online on Twitter.   They will air two playoff games in January, a Wild Card and a Divisional game.

Talent: Al Michaels, Cris Collinsworth will lead both Sunday night and Thursday night broadcasts. Sideline reporter Michele Tafoya will once again man the sidelines for SNF, while Heather Cox joins NBC to work on TNF.  Pregame: NBC’s Football Night in America pregame show airs on primetime with Mike Tirico as the new host from the game site, with spot appearances by Bob Costas.  Dan Patrick, Tony Dungy, Rodney Harrison and Mike Florio will report from the studio in Connecticut, along with insider Peter King. Costas will host the TNF pregame show from the game site joined by Dungy and Harrison.  Tirico and Doug Flutie will work select TNF assignments.

Flex Scheduling:  At least two games may be flexed to SNF from Weeks 5-9, with the traditional flex scheduling beginning Week 10 through Week 15. The final Sunday night game with the most direct impact to the playoffs will be announced six days before Week 17.

ESPN will air 17 Monday Night Football games through Week 16, including an opening week doubleheader.   They will air one postseason Wild Card game simulcasted on ABC as well as the Pro Bowl from Orlando.  Sean McDonough is the new lead play by play announcer for MNF joining Jon Gruden and reporter Lisa Salters. Chris Berman will host both Countdown shows, with a a new cast of talent.  Former FOX analyst Randy Moss joins the show, as well as Matt Hasselbeck and Charles Woodson.
