News & Notes: NFL Selling Thursday Night Games; Alex Rodriguez on 60 Minutes

  • Last night, John Ourand of Sports Business Journal tweeted the NFL will be holding an open bid to sell a portion of its Thursday Night Football package.  The deal is said to offer the half of the early games on TNF, while the network would retain the second half (though it would be more desirable for the bidding networks to purchase the later games).  Its been reported that it is the leagues preference the games air on the over air broadcasts (NBC, CBS or FOX), but it appears ESPN and Turner Sports will be in the mix as well.   This situation is still fluid and the full report on SBJ will be released later and you can also read it here at the New York Times website.

  • Courtesty of the Big Lead, here is Dan Dierdorff's farewell to CBS and the NFL Booth.  The Hall of Famer announced his retirement in December.  CBS's The NFL Today had a tribute segments that included NBC's Bob Costas, Al Michaels, Dick Endberg, former teammate Conrad Dobler and others.
