NFL TV Primer: Part 2 NBC

Struggling as a whole, NBC can hang its hat on having the #1 television program of the 2012 season in Sunday Night Football. The de-facto NFL Game of the Week, returns for its eighth season and released a loaded primetime schedule for the new season. SNF will air 19 regular season primetime games, including 17 on Sunday Night and two Thursday games featuring the defending Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens. Game times for each game will now start at approximately at 8:30 PM ET, 10 minutes later than previously.
  • Emmy winners, Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth return to the booth for their fifth season and will be joined by Michele Tafoya as the games field reporter for her third
  • NBC’s Football Night in America pregame show will remain intact with Bob Costas hosting from the game site and Dan Patrick anchoring the studio show from New York. Patrick will be joined by Tony Dungy and Rodney Harrison to preview the game and recap the afternoon games.  Sports Illustrated's Peter King and ProFootbal Talk Mike Florio return as contributors.  Hinds Ward will make occasional appearances onsite with Costas.
  • Additions: The only changes coming to the broadcast will be the addition of former Kansas City GM Scott Pioli as what is being called an ‘NFL Informationalist'. Also, country music star Carrie Underwood will be the new lead singer of the game’s opening theme replacing Faith Hill. The opening will premiere on September 8th
  • Once again, week 11 will be the start of Flex Scheduling, where the originally scheduled games between weeks 11 through 16 may be swapped out for a more competitive game from the afternoon’s slate. Week 17’s game will remain TBA until a game with the most significant impact on the playoffs will be selected
  • Into the postseason, NBC will air both opening Wild Card Saturday contests, with NBC’s Notre Dame Commentators Dan Hicks, Mike Mayock and Alex Flanagan calling the early game, followed by the primetime playoff game called by the Sunday Night team. NBC will also air the NFL Pro Bowl from Honolulu, Hawaii on January 26th
