This week I
will be running posts previewing MLB's TV coverage for the 2013 season. This
will be the final season of the current contract, so starting next season there
will be significant changes to how you view baseball nationally.
Today we
will look at TBS's MLB coverage for 2013:
Turner Sports will air 26 Sunday afternoon games on TBS throughout the season with all games subject to local blackouts. MLB on TBS's coverage will once again remain primarily in the east as evident to the release of the schedule for the first two months. TBS will announce the All-Star Game starters on MLB on Deck studio show before its game telecast on Sunday, June 30. After the NBA Playoffs concludes, Ernie Johnson will once again be used as the lead play by play man for select games throughout the season with former big league starters John Smoltz and Ron Darling as co-analysts. The trio will be part of TBS's playoff coverage and will be the lead commentators for the National League Championship Series. This postseason's coverage will also include both Wild Card tie-breaker games on separate dates, the majority of the four Divisional Series games (minus two games licensed to MLB Network) and all of the NLCS.
This will be
the final season of weekly TBS coverage. Starting in 2014 they will reduce
their schedule in half, will lose one of the tie-breaker games, half of the
divisional series and the All-Star game selection show.
