2013 MLB TV Primer Part 2: MLB on FOX

This week I will be running posts previewing MLB's TV coverage for the 2013 season. This will be the final season of the current contract, so starting next season there will be significant changes to how you view baseball nationally.

Today we will look at FOX's MLB coverage for 2013:

This will be the 18th season of MLB on FOX with Joe Buck and Hall of Fame analyst Tim McCarver as the lead commentators. They will broadcast their 15th All-Star together on Tuesday, July 16 from Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Buck will return to the baseball booth, during football's mid-season in October and with McCarver will call this year's American League Championship series and their 14th consecutive World Series together (16th assignment overall). FOX Sports Reporter Ken Rosenthal will be the field reporter throughout the regular season for the featured game of the week and will be joined by Erin Andrews during the All-Star game and postseason.

FOX will air 24 nationally exclusive games on Saturdays, with 8 weeks on prime time starting on May 25th . The game of the week pregame show will once again be hosted by MLB Network’s Studio Show one half hour before game time (15 minute shows during prime time coverage). The regional games throughout the season will feature other commentators from FOX Sports, their Regional Sports divisions and some MLB Network talent.

Notes:
  • FOX will preempt coverage on May 11th due NASCAR commitments and August 31st for College Football
  • FOX will begin flexing their regulary scheduled games in July with games featuring contending teams. As every season, the final two weeks of the season are left open and they will select games that have an impact into the postseason
  • This will be the final season of weekly over the air coverage on FOX, as they will move half their schedule to their new sports property FOX Sports 1 next season with more FSN produced games. FOX & FOX Sports 1 will also expand their postseason coverage next season
  • This will be Tim McCarver's final season working MLB on FOX
