News & Notes; New MLBN Addition; News Corp & YES




News Corp, owners of the FOX Network and its properties, have agreed to purchase 49% of the YES Network (Yankees Entertainment Network). News Corp have been in discussion for several years to purchase the stakes of Goldman Sachs and the former owners of the New Jersey Nets before they sold to developer Bruce Ratner. The New York Yankees own 51% of the network they co-founded in 2002. The Network was originally conceived for $345 million dollar investment and it is now worth $3 Billion dollars. It was also announced the Yankees will remain on their home RSN through 2042.

MLB Network have hired former NESN field reporter Heidi Watney. Watney was last seen on Red Sox telecasts in 2011, before supposedly departing for Time Warner's new Los Angeles Regional Sports Network. The Big Lead have been all over her career trajectory, originally reporting be hired to be the court side reporter for the Lakers, but she and the network abruptly parted ways. Late last month, TBL reported the rumor of Watney going to Secaucus.

With what may be possibly several openings in the NFL and College football, it has been speculated that Monday Night Football's Jon Gruden has open ticket anywhere. Sports Illustrated's Richard Deitch has spoken to insiders at ESPN and it has been speculated that Trent Dilfer is the front runner to be Mike Tirico's next partner.
