The Fall Classic begins Wednesday on FOX for the thirteenth consecutive October, bringing back broadcasters Joe Buck and Hall of Famer Tim McCarver to call the seasons final series. FOX will have a half hour pregame coverage nightly at 7:30 (except game 4) with a joint effort with MLB Network hosted by Matt Vasgersian. FOX Sports Reporter Ken Rosenthal and Erin Andrews will be the field reporters throughout the series, with Chris Myers subbing for Andrews during Game 3.
ESPN will have nightly coverage of the World Series on Baseball Tonight and SportsCenter. ESPN will have coverage live from the World Series site hosted by Karl Ravech and Steve Berthiaume (in his final ESPN assignment) and will feature all of ESPN's revolving baseball analysts. They will have broadcast coverage of the Series on ESPN Radio with their Sunday Night Baseball team of Dan Shulman and Orel Hershiser having the call.
The series will feature the San Francisco Giants making their second trip to the series after taking their first title in 45 years in 2010. The Giants rallied from two series deficits outlasting the Cincinnati in the divisional series after being down 0-2. Then they defeated the defending champion Cardinals in 7 games after being down 3-1. They face the Detroit Tigers who manhandled the Yankees in four games for their first AL Pennant since 2006. This season, they overtook the White Sox during the final two weeks of the regular season, lead by the likely league's MVP and Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera.
